I’ve been trying out headphones for at least a year now, trying to find the right solution. I need an open ear design because I don’t like my ear canals plugged when I’m talking, whether on a call or talking to someone nearby. It just doesn’t sound right. I’ve determined that I cannot wear earbuds because they become uncomfortable after a while. Yes, I’ve tried a few different brands and all the different sizes. I’ve tried the type that just rest in my ear. They are not bad, but they tend to fall out when exercising. I’ve tried the type with pass-through sound, or ambient/awareness mode, but there is a slight delay that drives me nuts. I’ve tried a brand that has a hole in the middle of the driver. It was a great idea, but like many other users, I found them extremely uncomfortable. So, I considered bone conduction headphones. I ordered a couple. They definitely checked off the boxes for comfort and for awareness of my surroundings. The bass was not all that great though despite the big improvements over previous designs. Still, it was a trade-off that I thought I could live with. Then I saw air conduction headphones. I’ve seen a few brands, but the TOZO was considerably less expensive and on sale. I thought I would give it a try. Comfortable? Check. I can wear them for hours. Awareness of my surroundings? Check. Ability to exercise without falling out? Check. Sound quality? Check. They only leak sound if I really turn them up. Otherwise, no one can hear them. I also like that I can adjust the sound settings in the app. I finally found a headset that I can use at work and at the gym. So pleased with this purchase!

Great headphones for exercise or general use
After looking at bone conductor headphones and splash proof earphones I found the OpenReals. I have now used them for several weeks and am confident that these are some of the best on the market with a few minor problems.Sound: Very good generally. They aren’t as detailed as high end in-ears, but still sound good. I thought these would sound poor due to them being open, but actually they are more than good enough to enjoy music and podcasts. They are veiled in comparison to the best in ears, but not enough to ruin the enjoyment of music.Battery: These last many hours at moderate to high volumes. Unless you want to use them 12 hours a day without the need to charge I think you will happy with the playtime.Charging: They charge via a magnetic charging cable. It works, but doesn’t take much knock the cable and disconnect them. For charging on a desktop this is fine, charging them in a bag, however, may not be possible.Controls: Play/pause is via a tap on the right earpiece. There are 2 buttons on the underside of the right battery pod. Power on and off and bluetooth pairing is done with these. They are rubberised and have a small click feeling when pressed. I mostly revert to using my phone for control.Connection: 2 devices can be connected at once and I haven’t had a issue with dropping out apart from when first connected. They can disconnect for a second and then reconnect which is a minor annoyance, but only lasts a second or 2. I have walked away from my phone upstairs and hardly notice an issue. You can cause connection issues with thick walls in addition to blocking the signal with your body. This shouldn’t be an issue under normal use.Comfort: This is an area that could be improved. The fairly large batteries and earpieces mean that these earphones press on the top of my ears. I am a glasses wearer which may make this worse. This area is the primary contact point to the head and doesn’t cause discomfort immediately. If you use them in excess of an hour, you will feel these pressure points.Sound isolation: These are open headphones (don’t create a seal). Despite this they are surprisingly loud and clear even at the lowest volumes. Low volumes are sufficient in quiet spaces, but won’t be suited to loud public places. These go surprisingly loud. People will hear your music if you crank up the sound on a quiet train, but it is much quieter than the volume into the ears would suggest. It would be advisable not to use these at max volume because you will probably annoy those around you.

Grata sorpresa!!!

If your ears aren’t designed for in-ear headphones, these are for you
First of all, a disclaimer: I purchased these to use in virtual meetings at work -so I can’t comment on how they sound for music or other media. I have tiny ears so finding in-ear headphones that would actually stay put has been a futile journey. Even those that did, caused my ears to hurt after about half an hour, which is not great for the very lengthy meetings I have to attend. The only ones I could tolerate were the older AirPods but connectivity with my windows laptop was patchy at best. Anyway, I decided to give these a try expecting not much and I was so pleasantly surprised! They don’t have to go inside the ear canal so they cause me no fatigue or pain. Call sound quality is superb and battery last ages -I got these on Saturday, it’s Tuesday evening and I haven’t had to charge them yet. I saw some reviews mentioning a weak magnet connection, but as you see in the photo, I can pick them up by the cable when attached and it won’t budge, so perhaps they improved connectivity in latest batches? Only drawback is that the neck is not adjustable. I feel that they would sit more firmly against my ears if that was the case, but, going back to my initial disclaimer, I am only using them for calls so I don’t need especially high volume. Last but not least, is it good value for money? For me personally, it absolutely is! If you are an audiophile, maybe look for other reviews before deciding, but if you need them for calls, I would say look no further!

Very good sound and comfortable. Loud enough when needed. Magnetic charge cable can detach easily!
I bought these after watching Flossy Carter’s YouTube review. The Tozo OpenReal are an upgrade on my SoundPeats RunFree Lite in every department but price and the charging cable. Both are air conducting headphones, but the Tozo is louder at every volume point, with a treble bias giving more detail. The build quality is better. The software app once logged in seems to work okay, but since I use a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, the Samsung music player has it’s own equaliser to adjust the sound preference. No issues with the controls. Battery life seems fine so far.The main negative is the use of the propriety magnetic charge cable. The cable is thin and flimsy compared to the USB-C cables I have. The magnetic connection is easily broken if the earphones are moved, so if accidently knocked and not noticed, the earphones may not get charged! If the cable is damaged or lost, how can a spare be obtained here in the UK? A spare should be in the box just in case. That is my main dislike of the Tozo OpenReal since Soundpeats RunFree Lite are USB-C.Overall I recommend this air conducting earphones over bone conducting earphones due to better sound quality.Month or so of use and a couple of things to note. The first thing is the touch pad does not like moisture. If wearing a helmet in damp conditions, the strap may cause false touches. Also damp fingers when trying to operate the touch pad, may not respond. The buttons for the volume work fine. The next thing that has happened, the earphones failed to respond any control, basically locking up and disconnected from Bluetooth. They would not charge when connected to the charge cable! I had to do a reset, which I think is holding the power button over 10 seconds or more. The Tozo’s performed fine since.
